OK. I spent all day on Thursday cleaning my office. I'll admit it was quite a mess with Christmas boxes, boxes from Christmas presents, mail that includes LOTS of catalogs....(once you order from one you receive a lot!), along with various other things that settle into my office. I was feeling pretty good about it, inviting all who came over to take a good look at it.
But alas! Today the Costco magazine came and I realize my time spent was in vain.
Listen to this quote from Albert Einstein (reportedly):
"If a cluttered desk is a sign of a cluttered mind, of what, then is an empty desk?" I have used this quote before, but here it showed up only a day after my desk is empty. There is a new book offered at costco.com titled A Perfect Mess: The Hidden Benefits of Disorder. It contains true stories and case studies to prove the point that people with a modicum of messiness and disorder can indeed be more efficient, more creative and, in general, more effective than their highly organized counterparts. The author states, "An unproductive and frustrating obsession with neatness and order is a real problem in our society."
So, although I am happy to be ending 2007 with a clean office, I am not sure that keeping it clean will be the top priority for 2008.
Wait........what is that saying "Cleanliness is next to Godliness."

Christmas Plans
Hey Everyone. Under Mom's direction, Carley and I made some plans for our Christmas "Adam" and Christmas "Eve". Here's what we have so far:
SUNDAY, December 23rd "Adam"
Meet at Matt and Kim's house at 5pm. We will have dinner, go on a hayride/carolling and do the white elephant style gift exchange with adults, kids' exchange gifts.
FOOD ASSIGNMENTS: Kim/soup, Carley/breadbowls, Shana/salad, Mariley/dessert
REMINDER: Gift exchange is in lieu of gift giving to each family. Each person (adult) should bring a unisex gift $20-$25.
MONDAY, December 24th "Eve"
Meet at Mom and Dad's house at 5pm. Hellers will be here. We will be having a mexican food potluck dinner - everyone bring a dish to share. We will do the Nativity, Grandpa and Grandma's stocking surprises, and watch Riley and Shana's family video and Mr. Krueger's Christmas (if the kids last that long).
Does that sound good to everyone? We are open to suggestions.

Flashback Friday

I'm going to start this little thing that a lot of my friends do on their blogs. On Fridays, they post a "blast from the past" called Flashback Fridays. I thought it would be fun to do with our family too. I found this one in the archives. :) Feel free to add some. Riley, that is one sweet fish shirt.

Thanksgiving
Thanksgiving is next week!
We will plan on eating around 3:30 p.m. and will have our traditional bonfire in the evening.
So far here are the food assignments.
Carley: turkey, dressing, gravy
Mom: rolls, potatoes, green bean casserole
Kim (&Matt) and Shana (&Riley): you can bring whatever you want to add to this. Surprise us!
Anyone can bring a dessert (pie???) for the bonfire.
When we plan for thanksgiving we automatically think about the feast, but I am publically expressing my gratitude for you, my family. We are so blessed to have such a great family and I appreciate all that each of you do. You are so good to dad and me and yet are so busy in your homes, church callings and community. I am thankful for each of you.

Don't forget about the Post Reunion
Monday, November 5, 2007
I wasn't kidding about starting a family blog!
So here it is. I thought it would be appropriate to start the blog by using gray, Dad's favorite color. We can change this, update this and tweak this so that it can be a fun tool for us to post photos, updates, and of course the weekly "How have you seen the Lord's hand in your life this week" column.
